Paigow Poker - Game play

The game commences when all players have placed a bet by putting a chip in front themselves on the table.

Each player and the dealer will then be dealt seven cards.

At this point, the players have a few moments to split their seven cards into two hands, one hand with five cards (high hand, or back hand) and one with two cards (low hand or front hand).

The overall value of the 5-card hand must outrank the 2-card hand according to traditional poker hand ranks.

After the players have arranged their hands satisfactorily, the dealer arranges their own, normally by according to a set of specific rules referred to as the house way.

Finally, each of the players’ five-card hand and two-card hand is compared with those of the dealer.

If both the player’s 5-card hand and his 2-card hand outrank the respective hands of the dealer, then the player wins. If one or both of the player’s hands falls short of the corresponding dealer hand, the dealer wins. In the case of a dead tie, or a copy, the house wins.

The only way for the player to win is to win both hands outright. The house wins if the dealer wins both hands outright or wins one hand and the other hand is a draw. Any other combination results in a push. This will lead to many draws, so there will be a 5% commission on all player wins, which will be automatically deducted from the player's account. Apart from the commission, all winning wagers are paid out at even money (1 to 1).

In real world casinos, anyone can be the banker, and as the banker changes, the house still takes 5% from whatever the banker manages to bank. So as to be favourable to the banker, losses are set against winnings. The table dealer will continue to play as the banker changes, betting whatever the last bet was when the dealer was banking.

To be the banker you must have enough chips to pay off all winning bets on the table. You also have to have already played a hand against the house as banker.
